 BLURB:

There are whispers of the darkest legacy that span hundreds of years...

Sixteen-year-old Cara Corsi just wants her normal life back. After recently surviving a horrific car accident, her recent life has been anything but ordinary and normal sounds pretty good right now.

Fully recovered and out of the hospital, Cara has returned to school, hoping her life will finally get back on track.

After only being back at her northern California high school a few days, weird and exciting occurrences happen, leaving Cara both perplexed and thrilled. When she is asked out by her longtime crush, Cara is elated that her life is quickly improving and her excitement explodes as she plans to attend the dance of the year.

But then, events quickly go off course and things aren’t as they seem. New problems arise when Cara is abruptly overwhelmed by brain-splitting headaches and her family is targeted by strange people Cara's mother, Maria, seems to know.

Maria has kept a life-altering secret that could destroy any chance of normalcy for Cara. Unbeknownst to Cara and her sister, Maria has taken drastic measures to keep the family hidden for the past fourteen years.

A sinister plan brews when the family is eventually located. But when Cara’s family suddenly disappears, Cara is overtaken by the nosy neighbor who won’t leave her alone–the same neighbor Maria warned her daughters to never go near.

Not knowing whom to trust, Cara must fight to find her family and to stay alive in a deception she knows nothing about.

Here is today’s teaser:

TEASER

I noticed it was much cooler on this side of the house. That would figure. Mom probably turned down the heat back here to conserve energy. I walked through the wing and entered the servants’ kitchen prep area. It was much colder in here, like I was walking outside on a thirty-five degree evening with no coat. I folded my arms around me to keep some of my body heat from escaping and walked to the end of the kitchen.
That’s when I saw the back door was opened.
No wonder it was cold. Who had left that opened?
It took me a few seconds to realize that no one ever used the old kitchen door and it should never be opened. I spun on my socks to run out of there but suddenly I couldn’t move.
That face from the front window was in front of me!
I opened my mouth to scream but he lunged at me and clamped his hand over my mouth. “Shut up, you little twit!” he whispered hotly into my ear. He went to wrap his arms around my body and I fought against him. Suddenly, my sock clad feet slid out from under me and I crashed to the ground. The man’s arms were wrapped around me and he fell on my right arm. I started pummeling him incessantly with my left fist, trying to wiggle and scream while he kept his hand tightly over my mouth.
“Stop fighting me!” he managed to say as he tried to evade my fist.

I switched my position and started kicking him anywhere I could reach. I kicked him in the leg and the thigh before I swung my leg up to kick him in the stomach. Seeing my leg coming at him, he shifted his body and threw his leg over mine, stopping all of my movements from the lower half of my body.

A Little Teaser from The Darkest Legacy: Betrayal

It’s 2 days before release day so here is a small teaser to get you ready!

TEASER

“Natalia!” my mother screamed, “Natalia! Call 911. Now! Your sister is dying!”
Was I dying? It actually felt like I might be and I prayed that the ball of pain would just explode so that I could experience the sweet ease of relief.
I tried to lift myself up but all the fingers touching me had other ideas. My mother’s hands gently pushed me back down while the evil fingers in my skull decided to use my brain as a stress ball. They weren’t very gentle as they squeezed and squeezed and squeezed. The tighter they squashed my brain, the tighter my body curled up into a ball. I needed the pain to stop. I wanted to just rip my head off my neck and toss it into the San Francisco Bay.
I reached out and grasped my mother’s hand. “Mom” I whispered to her, my voice sounded very light and thin. Maybe I was dying. “Make it stop. Please, make it stop!”
That sentence. That one simple sentence.
It was like a hole had been drilled open and all the pain started to ooze out. The white sheets in front of my eyes began to lift and I could make out the fuzzy edges and the blurry shape of my terror-stricken mother slowly came into focus. I cautiously lifted my head and used my free hand to feel the ground around me. Where was the pain? What did it look like? I thought I would feel the sharp, wet stickiness of it underneath my head but the ground was bone dry.

Surviving NaNoWriMo 2014

NaNoWriMo 2014 is officially over and I am thrilled to announce that I won! Yipee!! I ended the month with 56K+ words:

NaNoWriMo 2014 is officially over and I am thrilled to announce that I won! Yipee!! I ended the month with 56,000+words:

This year was more difficult for me because I had so many book-related things happening during the month of November. I was preparing my NaNoWriMo 2012 novel for a December 13, 2014 release date, I had to contact a new editor when my other one didn’t get back to me, I had to piece together my manuscript when the wrong file was sent to the new editor, I had to correct cover issues and the list goes on… All of this on top of writing 50,000 words.

In a way, my writing goal wasn’t as successful as I had hoped. I wanted to have a different manuscript finished during that time and unfortunately, that didn’t work out. So, I’m a bit behind in my writing now but I hope to catch up at the end of December and into January.

Did you participate in NaNo this year? Did you make it to the end? Did you complete your monthly writing goal(s)? And the big question: Did you hit 50K words and win NaNo?  :)

Until next time ~

NaNoWriMo 2014!

So, NaNoWriMo 2014 is about to begin soon (in exactly 12 hours)!

I am definitely participating again this year I cant believe that this will be my third time participating in National Novel Writing Month. Who knew that I would actually have a completed novel and preparing to publish it two years later?  :) The Gods are actually smiling on us writers this year because November 1st and 30th fall on the weekends which gives more time to write.

This year, Im going to do something different. As in the past, I had Pantsed my NaNo novels but this year, I am jumping ship and swimming over toward the Planners. I will be working on my sequel novel (starting tomorrow) and I have many ideas and plans for it. As of right now, all of those ideas are still swimming around in my head but I will be making an informal outline this evening so that I can climb onto the Planning Ship and start banging out my 50K+ words.

Here are my writing goals for November:

1. To write everyday
2. Not to stress out if I dont hit my word count goal each day
3. To make an attempt not to be distracted by the internet and social media
4. Try to not use the delete button (although I do save what I delete and do count those deletions as part of my word count)!
5. To type more than 50,000 words of my story
6. To attempt to make a writing plan for each day (well see about that one)
7. Not to worry if I make detours from my Plan I do have Pantsing in my blood.  :)
8. To write like crazy from November 1-30!

How many of you are planning on participating in NaNoWriMo this year? If you are deciding to join in on the frenetic writing for the month of November, will you be a Pantser or a Planner? What are your November writing goals?

Until next time ~

Oh, P.S. Happy Halloween!!
